Th
e image in the header of this blog (and to the left) is a portion of an Australian Aboriginal painting. Dot painting is the traditional visual art of the indigenous peoples of the Western Australian Central Desert. Today, dot painting still displays patterns and symbols that were used in cave paintings, but are now seen in vibrant acrylic paint colors on canvas. The circular pattern seen in this image may represent a campfire or settlement and the movement of a clan from location to location. Many Australian and Torres Strait Islander peoples have a significant physical and spiritual connection to the land on which they live…and this has, traditionally, had an impact on their well-being.
As often as possible, the photographs used in blog posts will be my own.
